Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI), in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ organized and conducted a training on Sustainability Management for Yangon based Tour operators on 20th October. Objectives of the workshop were to raise awareness for key concepts of the responsible tourism, understanding the roles and responsibilities of a tour operator and identifying steps to be taken to embed sustainable business practices internally and externally.
The subject matters covered included: the concept of sustainable tourism, sustainability guidelines, standards and criteria worldwide, in ASEAN and in Myanmar context, the role of the tour operator: Internal sustainability management, supply chain management and customer communication.
The joint MRTI-GIZ-IAI training was facilitated by the Chairman of MRTI Nyunt Win Naing. He was assisted by Sibylle Creutz, a German CIM Integrated Expert placed with MRTI and MRTI Board Member Re Paul R War. Aung Lwin from the GIZ project”Support to the Initiative for ASEAN Integration IAI” presented ASEAN standards and Achim Munz from Hanns Seidel Foundation provided inputs on Myanmar’s framework and guidelines on responsible tourism.
